MEET OUR MANAGEMENT TEAM

Seashore Day Camp and School is owned and operated by the Villapiano family.

During the school year, our faculty consists of 65 teachers, specialty instructors, coaches and bus drivers. In the summer, we employ approximately 100 counselors.

At least 70 percent of our staff started out here as campers, grew up in the program and return year after year to share their experiences with today’s children. To these devoted staff members, Seashore is not just a job. It is a way of life. They help young people discover new talents, motivate them to excel, fill them with confidence, encourage curiosity, help them master new skills and create a warm, nurturing, happy environment where lasting friendships form and there is a strong sense of belonging.

The following short bios will introduce you to our management team and give you some background on our credentials.

JOHN VILLAPIANO

President and Director

John Villapiano is the director of both the camp and school. Starting out at Seashore as a camper, Coach John as he likes to be known, has been involved with the program most of his life. Unlike many traditional headmasters, along with running the organization, he works directly with the children – teaching them to swim and sometimes even driving them to and from school and camp. John graduated from Bowling Green University with a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration. Prior to serving as director of Seashore, he played professional football for the World Football League and was later inducted into the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame. John has also held many elected local, county and state posts, including State Assemblyman for the 11th district, where he was a strong advocate for children's rights. In addition, he is a long-time supporter of causes that benefit young people, such as the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Organization. These days, after school and camp hours, John referees football, teaches swimming, and maintains his involvement in the community by serving in various capacities in Ocean Township and Long Branch.

AUGUSTUS (GUS) VILLAPIANO, JR.

Vice President of Grounds and Operations

Gus also started out at Seashore as a camper and has been involved with the program ever since. He is responsible for managing the grounds, overseeing construction of pools, educational wings and classrooms, and keeping the three different campuses running smoothly. In addition to his work at Seashore, Gus served as a fireman for the City of Asbury Park and was decorated for 25 years of service.

CAROLEE VILLAPIANO

Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Like her brothers, Carolee started at Seashore as a camper and has spent more than 30 years giving young people the kind of summers she had as a child. She was a teacher and counselor in the Long Branch School District and retired after 30 years of service. Currently, Carolee is director of scheduling and Chief Operating Officer for the camp, and advisor to the Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten and Elementary-Intermediate School Campuses during the school year. She earned her Bachelors Degree in physical education from Bowling Green University.

CHARLOTTE SCHATZOW

Principal, Grades K-8

Charlotte joined the Seashore faculty in 1980. After teaching kindergarten and first grade, she helped develop a curriculum to expand the school to the fourth grade and later to eighth grade. As Principal, she is responsible for programming, administration and testing at the elementary through intermediate school level to ensure students receive a solid educational foundation and have the skills needed to gain acceptance to the high schools of their choice (including the selective career academies) when they graduate. Before joining Seashore, she worked in the New York Public School System. Charlotte holds a Masters Degree in Administration from New York University.

DAWN LEHMAN

Director Of Preschool

Along with supervising the Preschool Campus, Dawn teaches our Monday to Friday full-day class. Since joining Seashore 30 years ago, she has given thousands of children an exceptional introduction to school. Over the years, she has earned a reputation for making learning fun, helping our youngest students excel academically, physically and socially and creating a warm, nurturing environment where they can’t wait to come each day.

TRACY GALLO

Director Of Pre-Kindergarten

After teaching at Seashore Preschool for 15 years, Tracy Gallo was promoted to Pre-Kindergarten Director. In this role, Tracy keeps six full and half-day classes running smoothly, ensures that Seashore offers the most progressive pre-kindergarten curriculum in the area and makes certain that children are well-prepared for kindergarten. Tracy, who has been with Seashore since 1984, holds a degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of Delaware.

SHARON METZ

Director of Marketing and Public Relations

Sharon is responsible for marketing and public relations, along with developing specialty programs that enhance learning and give students and campers a chance to try new things they would not experience elsewhere. Her work has been recognized with 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 first place Excellence In Writing Awards from the Jersey Shore Public Relations and Advertising Association. She brings this skill to our journalism class each week where students are taught to write and design their own newspaper called Seashore Student Views, which won a 2011 Silver Medal from Columbia Scholastic Press Association at Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Sharon holds a Bachelors Degree in English with a certification to teach K-12 from Montclair State University.

BONNIE SKOWRONSKI

Director Of Transportation

Bonnie is responsible for maintaining Seashore’s fleet of 42 buses, making sure all routes are covered and ensuring that as many as 300 children a day arrive on time and safely at the proper destinations. She has been with us for 23 years and makes sure that children are as well cared for on the buses as they are in the classrooms.

NOREEN CULLOO

Office Manager

Noreen has been running our Main Office since 1979. Responsible for keeping things operating smoothly between our three campuses, her job is busy, diversified and challenging. Over the years, she has registered thousands of students and campers, scheduled hundreds of classes, handled the billing, and processed dozens of daily requests from parents of students and campers, as well as from prospective families who want information about Seashore. Noreen holds an Associates Degree in Business Administration from Brookdale Community College.

LOU CONNER

Preschool Physical Education & Swimming Coordinator, Basketball Coach

For the past 30 years, Lou has been in charge of the physical education and swimming program at Seashore's Preschool Campus, has been the head counselor for eight and nine year-old boys at summer camp, and has run birthday parties. He also helped develop a program called Coach Lou's 10 Days of Excitement, which provides a full schedule of exciting, action-packed activities during the weeks between school and camp. Known throughout the Jersey Shore as "Coach Lou," he has taught hundreds of children how to swim, given them their introduction to sports and made their birthdays fun. In addition to working with children at Seashore, he coaches our varsity basketball team.

TOM MATTHEWS

Head Physical Education Director, Swim Lesson Director, Soccer Coach

Coach Tom has worked for Seashore for the last 23 years, where he is responsible for physical education at the Pre-Kindergarten to the eighth grade level, head soccer coach and the lead instructor in the pool. Coach Tom has helped hundreds of boys and girls develop the eye-hand coordination, dexterity and skills needed to become top athletes and strong swimmers. He has also taught them the skills need to compete in interscholastic sports, as well as how to be team players who excel on and off the field. In addition, he runs the after school and weekend swim lesson program.

JEFF REISLER

Aquatics Director

Another favorite is Coach Jeff, a Seashore camper who went on to become a counselor, head counselor of the Super Seniors and the head of boys program, before being named Aquatics Director. As a camper, Jeff was captain of Seashore’s first swim team and to date still holds swim records. During the year, he is a fifth grade teacher at Ocean Township Intermediate School, where he is such an exceptional instructor that children anxiously wait for the mail to come at the end of the summer hoping they will get to be in his class. Jeff holds a Masters Degree in Education from Monmouth University.

ROBIN LEVIN

Director of Camp Programs and Liaison to the North Shore Swim League

Robin has been part of the Seashore family since she was a camper. A member of the teaching faculty for 15 years and the camp staff for 30 years, she has taught kindergarten and math, scheduled hundreds of campers each summer, coordinated special events, supervised aquatics, managed the swim team and served as a liaison to the North Shore Swim League. Robin currently resides in Florida during the school year, where she is the Head of the Math Department in Palm County and returns to the Jersey Shore in the summer to resume her role at Seashore as Director of Camp Programs.

MARLEIGH STEVENSON

Director of Girl’s Camp Operations

Coach Marleigh was also camper at Seashore, became a head coach at a young age and after earning her degree in early childhood education at Rowan University taught Kindergarten at The Seashore School. Currently she is a first grade teacher at Wayside School in Ocean Township and during the summer brings the energy level to record highs as Seashore’s Director of Girl’s Camp Operations and the Head Coach for the 12 year-pld girls.

RENEE HARRISON PINCUS

Theater Camp Director, Third Grade Teacher

Renee has also been at Seashore since she was a camper. A staff member for 20 years, she has taught Pre-Kindergarten through Second Grade. Renee also started The Seashore School’s Performing Arts Program five years ago and an acclaimed Theater Camp called “On Broadway” the following summer. The Theater Camp has earned such a good reputation for producing full-scale Broadway-style productions that bring the house down, it has established itself as the place aspiring actors want to be and has doubled enrollment despite one of the most challenging economies in history.

ANTHONY GRECO

Co-Theater Camp Director/Producer

Award winning actor and award nominated director Anthony Greco has joined veteran Renee Harrison as Co-Director of Seashore’s Theater Camp “On Broadway.” Anthony has directed dozens of plays and musicals for children and teens including Annie, Oliver, Seussical, Grease, Wizard of Oz and Bye Bye Birdie. His work has been recognized too many times to count. Last year, his production of 12 Angry Jurors at Monmouth Regional High School earned a nomination for a Basie Award for Best Director from Count Basie Theater. Along with being Resident Director of Monmouth Regional’s Drama Program for the past three years, he has served as Education Director for Under The Rainbow Productions and Rising Stars Youth Performing Arts Academy. In addition, he was on staff last summer at the Triple Threat Camp for Phoenix Productions at Count Basie Theater. While new to Seashore Day Camp, Anthony has already directed some of our theater campers including Luke Sweeney in Bye Bye Birdie and Jake Cameron in Seussical.

KRISTIN HOWE & SUSIE VIANNA

Kid Control

It takes two people to ensure all the children in our school and camp are accounted for on a daily basis and that everyone is where they are supposed to be at all times. Kristin, who has been with us 20 years, is responsible for 345 Second Avenue and Susie, who joined the Seashore staff this year, is responsible for 404 and 410 Broadway campuses. They field hundreds of phone calls from parents each week and make sure all concerns are handled quickly, efficiently and with a smile. Their effort takes an incredible amount of coordination and communication that is essential to our operation.
