Seashore Adds A School Of Performing Arts
To Give Students Their Start "On Broadway"

The Drama Department at The Seashore School has become such a big hit, plans are in the works to take the program to the next level by adding a School of Performing Arts this year in its new theater on Broadway in Long Branch.

The goal is to transform the second floor of the 410 Broadway Campus into mirrored dance studios, rehearsal studios, music room and expanded stage with professional lights, set designs and costumes.

In addition to a strong academic curriculum, first through eighth graders who enroll will receive training in dance, drama and music. Elementary students will take classes in all disciplines, while fifth through eighth graders can select electives in the areas in which they want to specialize.

Under the direction of Renee Harrison and John Gordon, Department Chairs, students will develop the stage presence, poise and technical skills to put on professional productions learning everything from how to read for an audition to the proper way to bow after a performance.

As part of their training, students will go to Broadway plays and take workshops in NY rehearsal studios with stars in the shows they see. As the program develops, they will also meet agents and find out how to go on casting calls (one of Seashore s cast members was recently signed by a NYC talent agency and is auditioning for commercial and movie roles).

According to John Villapiano, Seashore Director, the school is expanding into this specialty niche because over the past year, the Drama Department has consistently delivered professional productions that leave the cast and audiences wanting more. The program supports Seashore's long-standing mission to help children develop talents, boost confidence, expand horizons and feel a strong sense of belonging.
